Spanish (France 1816 – before 1892)
Laurent's career coincided with the advent of the collodion glass negative, which gave his images high definition and expanded reproductive possibilities. His first catalogue was published in 1867. Later Oeuvres d'art en photographie, 1872, set the tone of Laurent's published work at once guide and catalogue. The second edition, 1879, of the Guide du touriste en Espagne et Portugal had the aspect of a travelogue. Widely distributed throughout Europe, Laurent documented Spain and Portugal through images of art, costume and architecture.
